Provide-A-Ride
Every day in Central Oklahoma, there are senior citizens who can not go to the doctor or dentist, or receive necessary medical procedures and treatments, simply because they can’t afford public transportation. With no friends or family in the area to take them, they just don’t go. Can you imagine being unable to take care of your health simply because you can not access transportation?
“Walter” can understand, because he has been in that situation. Living on a fixed income, Walter is a very independent gentleman providing full-time care for his wife, who has numerous health problems. When Walter developed macular degeneration, he worried how he and his wife would live when he could no longer drive.
RSVP’s Provide-A-Ride program alleviates Walter’s concern about getting to medical appointments. He is one of several hundred senior citizens who are clients of the RSVP Provide-A-Ride program, receiving transportation to and from medical appointments. Clients of the program are transported by their peers…senior citizens who volunteer their time and personal vehicles to help people like Walter.
